About Us

Are you a resident of the Derry City Council Area?

Are you between the ages of 16 and 22 years?

Do you want to change the city in which you live?

The Shadow Council consists of 39 members drawn from various youth, community, educational, geographic, and political interests, and from the wider community. Shadow Councillors are to be aged between 16 to 22 years and each member serves for a period of two years.

The Shadow Council aims to represent the views of young people in the Derry City Council area and become their voice. The council is representative of all young people regardless of race, colour, religion, gender, etc.

Shadow Council meetings are held in the Derry City Council chambers once a month. The Shadow Council works closely with Derry City Council to advise on issues affecting young people.

Opportunities for Shadow Councillors:

                  • Residentials
                  • Social Outings
                  • Chances to travel
                  • Accredited training
                  • Meeting new people
                  • Having a say!

This is an opportunity for young people to take their future and the future of their peers into their own hands and begin to change the way in which the City views them.
