Catherine Boyle

Catherine Boyle (Sister of Mercy) has a degree in education from the University of Manchester, with diplomas in Special Education, Catechetics, and Adult Education. She has worked as a primary and post primary teacher, as a field officer with Community Service Volunteers, and as a volunteer officer with the Churches Voluntary Work Bureau.

Catherine was a founding member and chair of both Foyle Homeless Action & Advice Centre (now First Housing) and the Foyle Haven Association. She was also a founding member of the Derry branch of the Samaritans, and a member of Community Relations & Christians. In addition to serving on The Junction's management committee, Catherine also serves on the Peace and Reconciliation Group's management committee.

Having grown up in a mixed community, Catherine was shocked at the polarisation and segregation that she experienced as a way of life for the people of Derry when she began work here. This shock prompted her to become involved in efforts to effect social and political change. Her initial enthusiasm for The Junction's purpose, and her continued interest and involvement in its work, is another expression of her support for all the "positives" that have arisen from the ashes of the last thirty years.

The Junction is funded by the Community Relations Council
through the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation.
